Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines has announced they have filed for bankruptcy. They will continue to fly however for any long term plans you may want to rethink your choices.

New Baggage Fees

The airlines are again raising the cost of checked bags when traveling in the U.S. One key consideration is the cost difference between bags that are checked and prepaid online verses the bags that are checked either curbside or at the counter. An example would be with US Airways – the first checked bag online rate is $23.00, if you wait to check it until your arrive at the counter, the rate is $25.00 for the first bag. Attached is a chart of where the fees stand at this time – please note, they are subject to change at anytime without notice. It won't be long until all of the carriers will follow.
New Fees Argentina
Effective December 20, 2009, the Government of Argentina will begin charging American Citizens visiting Argentina for business or tourism an entry fee of $131 US Dollars. The fee will be collected only at Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport. Once paid, the fee permits multiple entries into Argentina for 10 years in accordance with United States visa reciprocity. Americans may pay in dollars, by credit card or with travelers checks.

AmTrak Adding on WiFi on Acela Express Trains

As part of Amtrak's 2010 preview – an announcement was made that their Acela Express trains that run from Washington to Boston will soon be getting wireless intent access. This goal is to have this completed in March; initially be free to passengers along with other interior upgrades. This is all part of their 10th anniversary celebration.

Parking Costs

Airport parking facilities are increasing park rates. Many airports announced increases last year, Minneapolis-St. Paul; Los Angels, Honolulu; Little Rock National, etc. At Midway, a $1 increase will apply for long-term parking (7 hours or more) at the hourly and daily garages, and the 24-hour maximum will increase by $1, to $29. At Cleveland Hopkins Airport –Fast Park offers covered parking for $5.50 per day through March 31, 2010. At Port Columbus, you can prepay your parking and pay $4.60 per day with FastTrak. Don't forget to ask your Traveline agent for a discount coupon you may apply to parking at your airport.

TSA Requirements

Please keep in mind, TSA is asking travel agencies to provide the passenger's name as noted on the identification that is used at the airport, the passenger's birth date, and the gender on each reservation. This is to help eliminate delays for a traveler proceeding through security at airports. If you have not done so already, please provide this information to your Traveline agent and we can add it to your profile to be used on all future reservations. Also note, your airline ticket should also match your name as reflected on your identification and that should also match the name as noted on your frequent flyer account to ensure you are receiving all of your credits. All three documents should have your name spelled exactly the same way.

American Airlines – No-Cash policy – American Airlines will extend it's "cashless cabin" policy to all flights effective Feb1, joining an ever-increasing trend in the industry. The only exceptions will be American Eagle and American Connection flights – will accept cash only for purchases on board.
